What This Service Involves

Kick-out flashing is a small angled piece placed where a roof edge terminates against a wall, and its job is to fling water into the gutter instead of letting it pour down behind the siding. It is one of the most commonly omitted details on Northwest homes, and its absence quietly causes some of the worst hidden rot we encounter behind exterior walls. Because our rainfall is both heavy and prolonged, even a small diversion failure saturates wall sheathing over a single wet season. We fabricate and install a properly angled kick-out at the base of the roof-to-wall junction, integrated with the step flashing and directed straight into the gutter. It is an inexpensive part that prevents extraordinarily expensive water damage.

1) Identify the roof-edge-to-wall termination lacking proper diversion; 2) Remove siding or roofing as needed to reach the junction; 3) Fabricate and install an angled kick-out tied into the step flashing; 4) Direct the outlet into the gutter and seal all connections
