What This Service Involves

An open flue is an open invitation for Northwest rain to pour straight down your chimney, soaking the smoke shelf and eventually staining the firebox and walls. A properly sized cap with a stainless or copper mesh screen sheds water away from the opening while still allowing smoke and gases to vent freely. It also blocks the squirrels, starlings, and Douglas fir needles that love to clog uncapped flues throughout the region. We measure each flue precisely and secure the cap to withstand the gusts that funnel through Puget Sound wind corridors.
