What This Service Involves

Underlayment is the quiet backbone of a watertight roof, and in our marine climate it does far more work than it does in drier regions. Constant Pacific Northwest moisture means wind-driven rain regularly slips under shingle edges, so the underlayment becomes the true water barrier that protects your sheathing. We match the underlayment weight and type to your roof pitch, exposure, and shingle system rather than defaulting to whatever is on the truck. Every course is lapped, aligned, and fastened to shed water downhill even when a storm blows sideways off the Sound.

Our Process

1) Inspect and dry the exposed deck, replacing any soft or damaged sheathing; 2) Set drip edge and starter details so water is directed off the eaves; 3) Roll out and lap underlayment from the eaves upward with proper overlaps and fastening; 4) Seal penetrations and transitions before the shingle or panel layer goes on

Underlayment can be installed year-round in Washington, though drier windows in late spring through early fall let the deck stay dry between tear-off and cover.
