A turbine vent, sometimes called a whirlybird, uses even a light wind to spin its vanes and actively pull air out of the attic, moving more volume than a static vent of the same size. Our region's frequent marine breezes mean these vents keep turning and exhausting on days when passive airflow alone would stall. We choose sealed-bearing models that run quietly and resist the corrosion that our damp salt-influenced air can cause. Placement high on the roof and matched soffit intake are essential so the turbine draws from the whole attic rather than just spinning in place. Flashed and balanced correctly, it's an effective way to move moisture out cheaply.
